"Consequence" is the eighth episode of the second season. It is the sixteenth episode of the series overall. It premiered on October 5, 2012. It was written by Paul Keables and directed by Jean de Segonzac.

Mayor Tom Kane struggles to gather the approval he needs to sustain the city's deficit from the city council. His fiscal woes are worsened when Governor McCall Cullen dumps the national guard bill on him. Kane accepts an alliance with Alderman Ross in desperation and Ross betrays him. Emma Kane is distraught when her grandfather slips into a coma after a fall and sleeps with Ian Todd. Darius Morrison is beaten up for stealing from Trey Rogers. He goes to Emma's house and sees her with Ian. Ben Zajac wins the support from State's Attorney Jeff Doyle after an on air rant wins back public sympathy.
